About us

Afton View Child Care is a family oriented based child care center providing quality care to children 6 weeks to 11 years of age. We are a Parent Aware Accredited Center conveniently located in the Highwood Hills neighborhood in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  So, whether you live in Cottage Grove, Maplewood, Newport, Saint Paul or Woodbury, we’re easy to reach.

The Staff at Afton View Child Care have provided quality childcare to Saint Paul families for over 25 years. Our Executive Director, Candace Martin, owned and operated her own in-home daycare for over 10 years. She also has an education in management, finance and healthcare. Currently still working in the healthcare field.

Our Director, Daphine Walker has an education and management background. She has worked for several large child care centers in the Ramsey County area for over 10 years. Where she continued to advance her career in child care.  She began as a teacher’s aide and continued to advance until she became a director at one of the larger centers. She has also obtained her Child Development Associates credentials.

 We strive to maintain a family friendly atmosphere, where you’ll get to know the directors and your child’s teacher as well as the owner. Afton View Child Care participates in the USDA food program which ensures your child will receive nutritious meals that are low in sugar and high in fiber every day. The food is not only healthy but good. You might be surprised by the food your little one eats! Our meals are catered by Lisa’s Catering the meals are like home cooked meals, not the typical chicken nuggets and frozen foods you find at other childcare centers. We provide breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.

At Afton View Child Care teachers and parents are encouraged to work together to ensure a positive and engaging experience for every child in our care. We are passionate about education and providing children with a fun and interactive environment to help them reach developmental milestones and their full potential.

The Environment

At Afton View Child Care, we provide a safe and secure environment for learning. Our facility is a locked facility where families are buzzed in once they are verified. We provide developmentally appropriate toys and activities for each classroom and the toys are often rotated throughout the year to keep activities new and exciting. Children will develop fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social skills, and gain academic knowledge in various ways. Children participate in group time, art, dramatic play, outside or gym time and free play is offered daily. In some classes children may engage in exercise and music and movement. We have a library area in each class that is stocked with books, musical instruments and other resources for our children and teachers to utilize. Our classes offer sand and water play where children develop fine motor skills sifting and pouring sand and water. Our indoor gym area has basketball, soccer, foosball, ride on toys, slides, mats and more. Your child is guaranteed to have fun while playing, learning and reaching developmental milestones!

Our Staff

Afton View Child Care staff is CPR and first aid certified. All staff complete at least 20 hours or more of training in early childhood education annually.
